Friendly Plumbing, a licensed and insured plumbing company, services Hyde Park and the surrounding communities with 24 hour emergency plumbing service. The also offer plumbing repair service (toilet repair, faucet repairs, fixing clogged toilets, water heater repairs drain cleaning) Installation service ( water heater Installation, gas stove installations etc)

Choosing a good plumber is not as hard as you might think. The best advice is to be informed about the work you need to have done. Take a little extra time to find out what is involved in doing the job. Find out from your local supply house the cost of the parts involved. Sometimes you can purchase these parts yourself to make things cheaper. If the plumber tells you he will not warranty your own parts, that okay because the manufacture will. Choose a plumber that offers a warranty on his own work.

Call around to find out what other company’s will charge for the same job. That way you will know around what it should cost to have the job done. Never wait to get your only quote while the plumber it in your home to do the job. The problem with most plumbing company’s is that there is no set prices, they can charge whatever they see fit. In most cases that means the plumber will judge what he wants to charge you or what he thinks you can afford. Meaning if you live in a big lavish home you will pay more than someone who lives in a small older home, for the same work. It pays to fine a company in your area that has standard prices for everyone.

The cheapest plumber is by far not the best one. Often that means they are not licensed to do the work. In that instance you don’t want an inspector knocking at your door, looking for your permits. You will end up paying more in the end, after you pay fines, permit costs, and a licensed plumber to come out and finish the job. That doesn’t mean find the most expense plumber either. The ones who charge the most, have high over head, and you are paying for all of their fancy advertising.

Find a professional company that has been in the business for 10 or more years. That means they are stable and probably not going out of business soon. That way they will be around to uphold your warranty. Pay attention to the manner in which they conduct business. Do they have a professional feel, or do they look like they have just crawled out of a sewer somewhere. How did they answer the phone when you called. Was it pleasant, “Hello, thank you for calling, how can I help you?” or just “Service”. Also, how did they arrive at your house to give you your estimate? Did they pull up in there personal vehicle, or did they show up in a fully lettered van.

Your plumber should never track muddy boots on your carpets. They should be wearing shoe covers when you answer the door. Ask them to lay down tarps, when it is needed to pull dirty equipment over carpeting. They will, and a good plumber will do it without you having to ask.

Lastly if you are uncomfortable with your plumber, get a second opinion. You don’t have to get the work done by the same person who diagnosed the problem. Always find the plumber that is right for you. Some company’s offer a discount for routine costumers, so when you fine the right plumber stick with him and don’t be afraid to request only him. Although it might take a little longer to get that technician to your home, instead of who ever in the company is first available. Remember its your home and you are calling the shots

It is widely accepted to get 3 estimates for the work, review the proposals and pick the best company. Well, where do you get the names to invite in to bid your project?

The best solution is to ask friends and family in and around Warren Michigan if they have any recommendation. This is far better than doing a Google search for roofers in warren mi and rolling the dice.

Make sure their contractors license is current and in good standing. If its not, they will not be able to pull a building permit. Do not allow any home improvement begin without a permit. Trying to avoid this step for any reason, financial or otherwise is a real good sign, you did not hire a professional.

Make sure you get atleast 3 of the roofers most recent references and one older one. 3 is the minimum! Anyone working in the roofing field as a professional works everyday. Call them all, any wrong numbers are not a mistake, its a red flag (they had the number right when they wanted to get paid). You will not get a bad reference, if i did 100 jobs and only three were done right, guess which three i’m giving you. But it is important to do your part.

Be sure to ask for the name and number of their insurance company, roofing insurance and workman’s comp, is terribly expensive. These costs are built into the estimate. You are paying for this insurance coverage, its up to you to make sure you are getting what you pay for. Make sure that the insurance company understands the scope of the work being done. Many roofing contractors have insurance for say, installing windows or carpentry, to scale the high cost of roofing insurance, and if someone falls off the roof, the insurance company wont pay, if they discover the truth during there investigation (roofers need roofers insurance).

Another great source to find roofers in Michigan is to use Owens Roofers Referral Service which is owned by two roofing veterans Craig Owens and Ken Perry. They match you up with only qualified roofing professionals so you can avoid the headaches that most home owners face when choosing the wrong roofing contractor.

Roofing companies- Important Questions You Need To Ask Before Hiring Them For Your Roofing in Medford

Before hiring roofing contractors to repair or replace the roof on your house, there are several important questions you should ask. The answers to these questions will help you determine if the roofing contractors can help you with your roofing problem. You can compile an initial list of potential roofing contractors by asking for referrals from family and friends, contacting local building associations, looking through the Yellow Pages, and checking online. Here is a list of some of the most important questions you need to ask roofing contractors before hiring them for your roofing job.

Question #1 What is the business name and physical address of the roofing contractors?

A legitimate roofing contractor will have a legal business name and fixed address (not just a p.o. box).

Question #2 How long have the roofing contractors been in business?

Experience is an important consideration when choosing a roofing contractor. In addition to asking how many years the company has been in business you will also want to find out what types of work the roofing contractors have experience with. Some contractors specialize in certain types of repairs or roofing types, such as asphalt roofing, wood shingles, or slate roofs.

Question #3 Are the roofing contractors licensed or credentialed?

Many states and local governments do have licensing requirements for roofing contractors. You should check with your local city or county clerk’s office to determine if there are any licensing requirements and then check with the potential roofing contractors to see if they meet the requirements.

Question #4 What types of insurance coverage do the roofing contractors possess?

You should ask for proof of insurance for both liability and workers compensation insurance. If the roofing contractor is not insured you as the home owner would be liable for any injuries on the job.

Question #5 Do the roofing contractors warranty their work?

Ask each roofing contractor what type of warranty they offer and what the length of time the warranty is for. Most warranties are for one year.

Question #6 Do the roofing contractors provide references from previous customers on past jobs?

You should ask for several references from past customers from each roofing contractor you are considering hiring and contact the references to ensure the roofing contractors perform satisfactory work.

Question #7 Do the roofing contractors use sub-contractors?

If the roofing contractors use sub-contractors you will need to check on the sub-contractors as well.

Question #8 Do the roofing contractors provide detailed estimates? What is included in their estimates?

You will want detailed written estimates for your roofing job. Ask the roofing contractors what will be included in their estimates.

These initial questions will help you screen potential roofing contractors and help you determine if they are qualified to do the job. For those roofing contractors that pass your initial questions, you will want to get detailed written estimates and compare them, along with the information you gathered from your questions and research, before you make your final decision on which roofing contractor will be best to help you with your roofing job.

Everyone likes to save money by performing do it yourself projects. Hiring an electrician to come and do a task for you can be very costly, so a lot of people attempt to do their own electrical work.

Any major wiring projects should always be done by a professional, but there are a few minor projects you could do yourself. Even though they’re minor tasks, there’s still danger of electrical shock involved with them.

While getting shocked is a prime concern with electrical projects, an electrical fire can also be involved if you don’t take special precautions to protect yourself and your home.

Here are some tips on how to stay safe the next time you work around wiring:

• Always make sure that you cut off the power to the area you’ll be working on. Don’t rely on just the power switch being off. Go to your fuse box and either remove the appropriate fuse or flip the right switch to cut the power off completely.

• Alert anyone in the house what you’re planning to do (and keep children away from the work in progress). It would also be a good idea to place tape over the circuit switch in case someone else comes along who doesn’t know what’s going and tried to turn the circuit back on.

• When you begin to work on the area, you should always treat it as if it were still a live wire. Work slowly and take your time doing the work. You should be free from any distractions. There’s no room for mistakes, so don’t try to hurry through the project just to get it done.

• Use a fiberglass ladder if you need one because they’re non-conductive ladders and will absorb any electric shocks that may come through. Wear heavy rubber soled shoes as well to help absorb as much of the electric shock as possible should one occur.

• Use a power tester to test the wires you’ll be working on. Make sure there’s no power going through the wire. It’s possible that you could have hit the wrong switch on the fuse box, so take that extra precaution and test the wire before working on it.

• Don’t work in damp, wet areas. Electricity and water do not mix! Try to dry the area first before performing any projects with electricity. You should do this with any damp areas that are close by where you’ll be working - even if they aren’t in the precise vicinity.

• Make sure you know what you’re doing before you do it. Taping the wrong wires together can result in a major electrical fire when the electricity is turned back on. Do it correctly the first time and you can avoid that kind of catastrophe.

You can save quite a bit of money by doing some of your own minor electrical work, but don’t take these tasks too lightly. If you worry that you’ve gotten in over your head, call in a professional and don’t risk your life or your home.

Kitchen remodeling can be an expensive and time-consuming task. With everything potentially involved in a kitchen remodel, the costs can skyrocket higher and higher every day of the project.

You don’t have to break the bank if you don’t want to, though. There are some ways you can still change the look of your kitchen for a fraction of what it would cost to do a major remodel.

Here are five ways you can remodel your own kitchen on a budget:

1.) Painting - Painting is the simplest thing you can do to change the look of your kitchen without knocking down walls. Not only can you update the color of your walls, but you can paint a room to make it appear more spacious, too.

2.) Tiling - Tiles can change the look of your kitchen and modernize it if it seems outdated. Using tiles as a backsplash on the wall or covering your floor with them can give your kitchen the appearance of a major renovation even when you didn’t have to call in the professionals.

3.) Cabinets - Replacing your cabinets can be costly. You can get the same effect and spend a little less if you just change the existing cabinetry. Paint them and add new hardware that reflects an updated style.

If cabinet space is your dilemma, then you might want to replace your existing ones with unfinished cabinets, saving you money. You can then go back and paint them or make them any style you want.

4.) Lighting – You’d be amazed at how a different light fixture can change the whole look of your kitchen. Try going with an elegant light fixture or even an exotic looking ceiling fan/light fixture to breathe life into your remodeling project.

5.) New Appliances - Purchasing new appliances can be a costly way to remodel your kitchen, but it can still save you money compared to a major overhaul. Plus, if you update your kitchen with energy-saving appliances, you’ll get your money back over time. You may want to try stainless steel appliances, or change the color scheme from black to white.

These small changes can give the illusion of major remodeling, and no one but you will know the truth. The eyes of your visitors are drawn to the changes you made in your kitchen, so your friends and family aren’t likely to notice that you didn’t fully change things out unless you choose to tell them.

Bathrooms never used to be one of the main focal points of a home, but in recent years people are taking more care to get the bathroom of their dreams. The cost that it would take to completely update a bathroom by a professional could break any bank, but a lot of the work can be done yourself provided you have a few extra muscles and hands to help you out.

Unfortunately a lot of people who did the work themselves end up going way over the budget they had planned to spend on their bathroom renovation. One of the biggest mistakes they made was by not planning appropriately for their project.

A well thought out plan is the key to staying within your budget when fixing up your bathroom. Check out your finances to see how much money you can spend on your bathroom renovation.

You’ll need to budget as much as you possibly can without going broke. It’s better to budget too high and end up with money left over than to plan a budget too low and end up spending more money than you could afford.

Measure the bathroom and see what you have to work with. You want to measure the area carefully and buy cabinetry, sinks, and tubs that fit into the space perfectly. There are many digital measuring devices now that will help you with measurements.

Start out with a list or a crude drawing of what you’re expecting to do with your bathroom. Are you looking for a different shower, tub or sink? Where do you plan on putting them?

Decide on whether you’ll paint, wallpaper or tile. Get an overall idea first of what you want and draw it on paper or using the computer to see if it would work. It always helps to have a backup plan on other ways you would renovate your bathroom in case something doesn’t work in your original plan.

Take your list or drawing along with you to the home improvement store. Compare prices of the items you’re looking to get. Check them out thoroughly to find the one you want at the best price.

Be flexible. You may have an original plan and then spot something else you like better – like a pedestal sink that’s cheaper than the one you originally were thinking of getting. Jot down all of the prices of the items you need, but don’t buy just yet!

Take a few paint or wallpaper swatches home with you. Check to see how they would look in your bathroom. Paint color in the store can look very different at your home, depending on lighting, so take the sample cards and see if your color choices will work in your bathroom.

Take a look at your figures and see how they fit into your budget. Did the figures go over budget or did they stay within the limits you set? You’ll need some breathing room within your budget to account for any unexpected items you end up needing, and of course, figure in the taxes of the items you plan to buy.

Once the idea is in place and you’re satisfied with the approximate cost of your plans, go out and purchase the items. Try to get everything you need before you start your renovation project, so that you can eliminate the need to run back and forth to the store to buy the things you have forgotten.

If you budget and plan well before the renovation starts, you can enjoy your dream bathroom while basking in the fact that you were able to achieve it within your set budget.

Are you looking for ways to save money and cut down on energy costs drained by your lighting options? There are some ways you can accomplish this without interfering with the quality of lighting you need in your home. Here are some ways you can provide enough lighting but cut down on costs.

One way to cut costs is by using a good quality light bulb. The cheaper ones are enticing because they cost less in the store, but sometimes they can end up costing you more on your energy bill and they don’t last as long as the more expensive, energy-saving bulbs.

Use fluorescent bulbs wherever you need a good amount of lighting. Fluorescent bulbs give off a nice soft, but ample light and last a lot longer than regular light bulbs. These bulbs can be used in pretty much any light fixture and there are some that come in a more compact form so that they fit into a regular fixture. You don’t have to have long store-like lighting fixtures with long, narrow bulbs anymore when you’re thinking florescent.

Halogen bulbs also provide a lot of light and will last much longer than regular bulbs. They do require much more care when handling them and they have a tendency to get hot when they’ve been on for awhile, but they cut down on energy costs within your home.

Use a smaller wattage bulb in fixtures or lamps that don’t necessarily need that much light. If you can get by with a 25 watt bulb in an area, then replace the higher 60 watt or 100 watt bulbs you probably have in there now.

Utilize different lighting techniques by trying track lighting wherever possible. Track lighting offers multiple light fixtures on one track that can be pointed in different directions in the room. By strategically pointing them to different areas of the room, you can eliminate the need for any more lamps or lighting choices in that area.

Install a light-dimming switch wherever you can. This allows you to adjust the amount of light within your room as you need it. If you need a lot of light, you can turn it on all the way and when you need only a little light, you can turn it down to the level of light that you want. By not using the full energy from the lighting all of the time, you can cut down quite a bit on energy costs.

Using these tips, you’ll save money on your energy bill and in how much you have to spend annually on light bulbs because the cheaper ones fizzled out. Just remember that you don’t have to sacrifice top quality lighting just to cut costs.
